I’m beginning to think that our attitude toward our work often says as much about who we are, as it does about the work itself.
If a friend is always complaining about his job, and how if he only had a different job everything would be better, does it mean that his job truly is terrible? Possibly. But it also says a great deal about that friend. If he’s always complaining about his job or his boss, it’s very likely a new one isn’t going to change that pattern.
On the other hand, if a friend is able to maintain a great attitude in the midst of a truly awful work situation, it doesn’t mean that the situation is great, but it does shine light on the kind of character this friend has. Odds are, she’d be able to make the most of any situation she finds herself in.
It’s easy to complain. But doing so often says more about us than it does about anything else.
