Most of us want to be in control. It’s only natural. But how do we handle the reality that much of life is out of our control?
It seems that it can be easy to go to two different extremes. You can strive for more control, which can create stress and disillusionment when things don’t go exactly as you’d like. Or, you can let go, shrug your shoulders, and adopt a “whatever will be, will be” approach. This however, when taken too far, can end up becoming an excuse for being apathetic or irresponsible.
Even though much of life is out of my control, the reality is that I can still control one thing. And that one thing is me—my actions, my attitudes, or my responses. The trick is to take full responsibility for few those things I can control, and knowing when to let go of those things out of my jurisdiction.
