When we finally decide to make changes in our life, not only will there be internal resistance to deal with, but we’ll often experience external resistance as well.

Sometimes friends or families have an unconscious agreement to maintain the status quo. So once someone decides to change what everyone else has grown accustom to—to pursue excellence and not settle for mediocrity; to master his craft and not just stagnate—those who we’ve been close to him may unwittingly try to undermine his decision.

And although it’s tempting to stop and wait for those around him, the best thing he can do, both for himself and for those close to him, is to keep moving forward. He won’t help anyone by not growing himself. But if he does change and grow, he can serve as an example and inspiration for those who are watching.
