Part of being human is making choices, and every day we are faced with choices that only we can make. It’s important to remember that these decisions we make are our decisions. Good or bad, right or wrong, they’re on us.

But it can be easy to shift the blame for our poor choices. We can deflect responsibility when things don’t go right, coming up with all kinds of reasons why it’s not really our fault. The problem is that in so doing, we greatly reduce our chances of learning from them.

Taking ownership of our choices is in itself a choice, and like all choices, we will reap the consequences of the path we decide to take.
