When entering into anything new—whether it be a season of life, or a position at work, or a relationship, or a business venture–it can easy to assume we know what’s going to be required of us. But many times things don’t go exactly the way we expect.

Things may be required of us that we had no idea about going in; we may be stretched in unexpected ways. This isn’t bad in any way, and it fact often provides an opportunity for growth.

But in being so focused on what we expected, we can either push back, or be oblivious to, the demands of reality, because it’s different from what we envisioned. Yet, by not embracing what we actually need to do, we not only make it harder to succeed, but also miss out on the opportunity to learn and grow along the way.
