When we feel the urge to criticize someone, we would do well to examine what is driving that urge. Is it coming out of jealousy or resentment over what they have or what they’ve done? Do their achievements or actions remind us of all the things we told ourselves we should do, but which we never actually did.

If we’re doing our work—fulfilling our calling—there will be little desire to criticize someone else in the pursuit of theirs. But if we are not doing what we know we should be doing, it can be tempting to try to pull down others who are.
