It’s interesting what we remember about people from our past, especially if we didn’t know them really well.

For me, often things like attitude, character, and work ethic stand out. Of course, if I didn’t know them well, these impressions may have come from only a few interaction. But generally, did they come across as genuine or fake, gracious or arrogant? Did they seem sincerely interested in others, or did they like to talk about themselves? Did they strike me as someone who worked hard and tried to do their best, or as lazy and a slacker?

And just as we remember others based on our impressions of them, others will remember us based on the same kinds of factors. Which means, the way we interact with others, the way we carry ourselves, and the way we do our work, matter—and they’ll be remembered long after we’re gone. And although we can’t change the past, it’s important to understand that our interactions and attitudes of today might have a longer lasting impact than we realize.
