This week, I’ve been volunteering at a youth basketball camp. Throughout the camp, two words have been emphasized over and over: Attitude and Effort. These words were picked because they are both things that the students can control. It doesn’t matter how tall or short or fast or slow they may be, they can still choose what kind of attitude they’re going to have, and what kind of effort they’re going to give. And these choices will go a long way in determining how successful the students will be—both in basketball and in life.
No, having a good attitude and giving our best effort doesn’t guaranteed that we’ll always “win.” But it does enable us to make the most of what we have, and do the best that we can do. And that is something we _can _control.
Most things in life are beyond our control, but our attitude and effort are not.
