The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities.
–Stephen Covey
Blocking out time in our schedules for the important things we want (or need) to do, has a few benefits. Not only does it help ensure there will be time to do what’s important, but it can also help us keep our focus on whatever we’re doing in any given moment.
For instance, if we know that time has been allocated for the things that are most important, we don’t have to worry about running out of time to do them. Instead, we can focus on the task at hand. Since we know we’ve already set aside time in our schedule to do these other priorities, we’re free to engage with whatever we’re doing without fear that the other more important things will be left undone.
Blocking out time for our priorities on our schedule is a great idea. Not only will it help us keep first things first, but it can also help us be more present in all the other things we do too.
