“Telling yourself you have all the time in the world, all the money in the world, all the colors in the palette, anything you want—that just kills creativity.” –Jack White
Although having unlimited options may sound great, it doesn’t stimulate creative solutions. Rather, limits are what help creativity to thrive. Having too many options to choose from can lead to choice overload, and we end up spending a lot of time looking at all the options instead of focusing on doing the work.
That, and if we have everything, and there are no limits, then there’s no necessity to be creative. But when there are constraints—when there are boundaries—we suddenly have a place to focus our creative energies, forced to be more resourceful than we would otherwise be.
