Sharing our work can be helpful in many ways. Not only can our work be useful to others, but by sharing it, we find ourselves pushed to do better work ourselves.
If I know ahead of time that I’m going to be sharing what I create with someone else, I’m going to be more conscious of the quality of the work I put out there. On the other hand, if I think that no one will ever see it, I may be tempted to slack off.
Knowing that what we create will be seen and used provides an immediate incentive to make it better. And as we make it better, our work will become even more useful to those who find it. In the end, our work gets better, and both we and our audience reap the benefits.
And it all starts with being willing to share.
