What controls your attention, controls your life. –Darren Hardy
On any given day, there are numerous things that vie for our attention. And who or what we choose to give our attention to is a vitally important decision.
If something has our attention, it means we’re thinking about it. And since our thoughts impact not only our attitudes but also our actions, the more attention we give something, the more capacity it has to impact the course of our life.
And this can work both for our good or for our ill.
Some things can distract us — or they can lead to fear, or envy, or selfishness, or pride — and in the end, we suffer the consequences.
However, there are also plenty of good things that are worthy of our attention — things that can challenge us or inspire us — and we’re the better for it.
Long ago, St. Paul challenged his readers to be careful of what they gave their attention to. He told them, “whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things.”
What we give our attention to matters. And with so many things out there competing for it, it’s important that we choose wisely.
