There’s a saying that whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re usually right. And although there are cases where people are delusional and think they can do things they’ll never be able to do, there are countless other times where we talk ourselves out of even trying because we’re convinced we can’t succeed.
And so the attitude we take on often becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. If we think we can’t, we either don’t start, or we give up too quickly, or we end up self-sabotaging our efforts in some other way. But if we’re convinced we can, not only do we start, but we also tend to stick with it even when things get tough, looking for ways to keep moving forward instead of simply giving up.
There are numerous things each of us have the capacity to pull off. The question, though, is whether we actually think we can do so.
