In business, the biggest opportunities are for those willing to tackle the biggest problems. Meaning, if you solve a problem that no one has, you will be rewarded differently than solving a problem that everyone has (or at least thinks he has). There is a connection between the size of the problem and the size of the opportunity.
In life, the same thing is true. The more challenging the situation, usually the greater potential for us to grow and develop. Yes, this doesn’t make it any less difficult, but it can also end up being an opportunity for us to grow into somebody that we otherwise would never become.
If the size of the opportunity correlates with the size of the problem, it also means that in one sense problems can be seen as allies. Not because we enjoy them or want them to stick around, but because we realize that they can provide opportunities to grow and develop in ways we would not be able to find elsewhere.
