My life has been full of terrible misfortunes most of which never happened. –Michel de Montaigne
It’s amazing how many things we can worry about that never actually take place. We might be afraid of how something will turn out, and begin to take on the accompanying stress. But often these things we fear don’t end up happening. And in the process, we needlessly waste a lot of focus and energy in worrying.
I’m reminded of Jesus’ teaching, “…do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.” We have plenty of things to think about, and be present to, today. Tomorrow will bring its own set of challenges, and we can deal with them when we get there.
Better to wait and deal with the real issues we encounter in the present, than to stress and worry over ones that may never materialize.
