Although none of us desire difficult times, they do provide a unique opportunity that good times do not.

It’s in the hard times, in the moments of difficulty, that we get a clear glimpse of what’s really inside of us. How do we respond in the moments of hurt, loss, or insult? Will our actions and attitudes in these times match up with the kind of person we truly want to be?

Just as a pop quiz gives both the student and the teacher a better idea of where the student is, so the difficulties of life give both us and those around us clarity about the kind of person we’ve become.

A lot of us can keep our act altogether when things are going well, but the true test is how we respond when things aren’t going so well. In these difficult times we gain insight into who we’re truly becoming. And this insight often doesn’t come by any other way.
